IIAR 6 is intended to be incorporated as part of a Mechanical Integrity Program as recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP). It replaces IIAR Bulletin 109 and IIAR Bulletin 110.Due to the RAGAGEP requirements within the PSM and RMP regulations, we highly encourage owners/operators to review and evaluate their existing maintenance agreement and service program against the IIAR 6 requirements.

IIAR 6 focuses on the following minimum requirements for the inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) of ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Requirements for developing an inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) program to reduce the likelihood of an ammonia release.
  • Requirements for conducting inspections, tests, and maintenance.
  • Specific ITM tasks to be performed categorized by the type of equipment.
  • Frequencies for performing the ITM tasks.
  • Information that must be documented when performing an inspection or test.
  • Types of records to be maintained and how long they must be kept.
